Peugeot will release the much-anticipated 308 SW this summer, fresh with exciting new features and an aesthetic that adopts the company’s latest design philosophy. It goes without saying that this car comes equipped with a high-quality Peugeot battery that powers its many on-board features. A battery for Peugeot vehicles only lasts for about two to three years with normal use, so those interested in purchasing this car should be ready to buy a compatible battery should the need for replacement arise.
Peugeot's compact car line has used the SW (station wagon) badge since 2002. The latest 308 SW will have a new face inspired by the 208 superminis but with additional refinement like that of the 3008 SUV.
The overall look leans toward aggressive designs, which have been seen in the 208, 508, and the new 3008 cars. The Peugeot 308 SW daytime running lights resemble white fangs, and the rear will sport 508 SW designs, including the sloping roofline and the spoiler on the tailgate. It may also have an LED light bar.
While little is known about the specifics of the soon-to-be-released station wagon, it is expected to have a similar dashboard design to the 3008, which is an intricate, piano-key-inspired setup. The infotainment system will have a floating 10-inch touchscreen display and will also fully digitise the gauge cluster – a brand-new feature for the 308. These components, as well as the car’s other features, will be powered by a robust Peugeot battery.
Looking under the bonnet, it will have Peugeot's three and four-cylinder PureTech engines, along with other options, which will be detailed upon full release. The powertrain options may consist of 128bhp, 178bhp, and 222bhp petrol engines, and a 128bhp BlueHDi diesel engine.
Back when the last model for the 308 was released in 2018, it was one of the most notable cars when it came to engine efficiency, with the three-cylinder turbo that produced 128bhp. Its excellent fuel economy also made it ideal as a family car.
It came with plenty of boot space; in fact, it has one of the biggest boots among other cars in the same class. However, the legroom, headroom, and space for passengers were not as accommodating, which is why it will be interesting to see what they have done to the 2021 model.
One of the main differences is the lower nose which flows into a new grille. It will have an integrated headlamp and will feature the latest Peugeot logo. The new logo will only sport the lion's head; the first time they have done away with the body in almost 50 years. As the oldest surviving automotive brand, this is the 11th logo they've had in the company’s history. Julie David, Managing Director of Peugeot UK, said that it reflected the changing model line-up and the brand philosophy of ‘living in the moment’.
Upon the release of the car, the Peugeot 308 SW will join the revamped 308 hatchbacks in showrooms around the UK. It is set to be on sale in the second half of 2021.
